Summer 2002 will see California's first Tuvan music camp held in Mendocino. The Smithsonian Institution presents the Silk Road Festival this summer. This summer's Dembildei festival now has it's own WWW site at http://www.tuva.ru/dembildei/ . In July 2002, the Riddu Riddu Festival in Samuelsberg (or is it K�fjord? This is an important detail if you are going to attend!), Norway, will play host to "Alash", as part of the Festival's Tuva Day. Why can't every country have a Tuva Day? :-) Dina Oiun and friends have set up an internet new agency "tuva-online" (http://online.tuva.ru) in two languages (Russian and English) to connect "Tuvan places" all over the world and allow correspondents to grow a network. "QED," the play about Richard Feynman starring Alan Alda (based on writings by Richard Feynman, and the book "Tuva or Bust!"), will reprise on February 17 for another limited run, this time for 26 performances at the 1000-seat Vivan Beaumont Theatre (150 W. 65th St at Lincoln Center) on Sunday and Monday evenings only (7:30pm, not 8pm as before), thru May 13. In Moscow on February 12-15 (Shagaa is the night of February 12-13) there will be a stamp and photo exhibition, and a presentation of the Tuvan agency in the House of Russian Journalists. (I think that "the Tuvan agency" refers to "tuva-online" at http://online.tuva.ru - Editor). Details will be posted as they arrive. The tour starts in February 2002; see Steve's WWW site for details. Some details of the recent archaeological find near Kyzyl are now available. I have finally gotten around to posting a review of the new CD by the Tuva Ensemble. The review itself, by Sami Jansson, is a work of art. A panel discussion on south Siberian reindeer herders will take place in Washington, DC, late in November. The Tuva Philatelic Research Society opens its doors.
